Before, during, & after birth
What we do (ula)
A doula is a trained non-medical professional who provides comfort, resources, physical, and emotional support through all stages of pregnancy. Doula's also provide support and relief to partners and families during the process.
A birth doula's goal is to advocate for the birther by helping to facilitate a calm, positive, and empowering birth experience. A postpartum doula's goal is to assist the birther in the first weeks after birth with sleep, feeding, and self-care strategies.
Doula's are constant support before, during and after birth. Studies have shown that having a doula helps with the stress that pregnancy presents. Birthers are less likely to have pain-relief medications, experience cesarean births, or show signs of depression during the postpartum period. Doula's help to fill gaps in maternity care in underserved communities by navigating the healthcare challenges that are often experienced.
Aloha, my name is Kiesha! I am an Army veteran and live in Ewa Beach Hawaii with my husband, three fur babies, and our youngest of four children. As a parent, I didn’t always have help or know how to advocate for myself especially before, during, and after the birth of my children. In fact, I suffered from postpartum depression three times and one of those times was when I was a gestational surrogate. If I had known what I know now, my birth experiences would have been much different because I would have had control over my decisions thus giving me a different outcome. Because of that, as a birth and postpartum doula I will help support and advocate for new parents and families like you. I will provide you with all the information and resources you want to make informed decisions before, during, and after your baby arrives. I will be there emotionally and physically for both you and your partner, With me by your side, you can both feel more at ease and relaxed knowing there is someone guiding you from start to the finish line!
We live in a country were birthers, especially black women, are at a higher risk of maternal death than any other ethnicity. Many times, their concerns are ignored and they are afraid to ask questions. Those concerns and questions from the very beginning can mean life or death for them and their unborn child. I feel strongly about maternal health and want to help change the narrative that says we are all the same, that we have no choices, or that our voices don’t matter when it comes to our healthcare. Pregnancy is difficult, confusing and that experience shouldn’t be navigated alone.
There are often feelings of anxiety, panic, and depression especially in the postpartum stages. With resources and support, birthers and their families no matter of orientation, beliefs, or social status will be ready to face the challenges that may arise before, during, and after their pregnancy. Providing birth & postpartum doulas to everyone who wants one is a major step to ensuring birthers have all the help they want and need. They will always know there are others and people like me, dedicated to help them facilitate a peaceful and enjoyable birth experience when bringing the most essential being into this world - Life.
